There have been times over the last few months when I stare at my laptop screen with the intention of writing from the depths of my soul only to realize I have lost the skill to complete a creative sentence. I could manage bullet points. And I get a compelling urge to put them up on MS Powerpoint. That is not good.
The other day, I opted for a time-tested technique to get my creative juices flowing -- a deliberate trip to my favorite bookstore to find the perfect piece of fiction I can sink my teeth into. I browsed for hours. I went home with a biz book, "Brand Warriors" by David D'Alessandro. That is not good.
When I awoke one morning, I shuddered at the realization that I just dreamt of a work day. A whole work day. A whole non-eventful work day, complete with Jeff speeding through his work assignments, with Emir zoning out into his chess obsession at lunch, and with Alex whipping up ways to torture the juniors. No paisley-pattern elephants walking stomping the xerox machine flat. No Keanu Reeves making a cameo as my UPS guy. A whole work day -- instead of my usual rockin' mad dream! That is not good.
